This is what we love! Little Gonzales + Michael Wilton

Photobucket

Creative minds getting together and having their passion exploded all over…. a book.

Little Gonzales + Michael Wilton have come together to create a book called ‘WHAT SONG IS THAT’.

WHAT SONG IS THAT? is a stimulating, colourful and quirky hard-covered title that contains 100 unique pictograms which prompt the viewer to recall the name of universally recognised songs - everything from Tiny Dancer to Careless Whisper to Ice Ice Baby to Sex On Fire to Empire State Of Mind!

The viewer’s goal is to piece together the song titles through visual recognition and word play. Some of the pictograms are literal, others will be oblique. Participants will receive a point for correctly naming the song title, and a point for correctly naming the original artist. The list of answers at the back of the book will reveal how well you know your way around a pop pictogram.

WHAT SONG IS THAT? is an ideal gift book for lovers of music, pop culture, and graphic art – which is just about everyone!

The book’s illustrator Little Gonzales is one of Australia’s most exciting artists. He’s designed album covers, t-shirts – and everything in between! .

They would love to print an intial run of 500, and need YOUR help to make this happen! Help support the project by throwing some $$$ HERE

Mart Gallery has had the immense pleasure of working with BOTH Little Gonzales & Michael Wilton in the past…. both on music projects, so you know these 2 boys are hardcore music fans!

Little Gonzales will also be exhibiting @ Mart Gallery mid-Oct 2011, sign up to our mailing list to keep up-to-date!

MART GALLERY 2011

Photobucket

Well hello there all our Mart Gallery friends!

We hope the summer has been treating you well, and you’re all set for 2011!

We’ve been very busy here over at Mart, preparing for the new year - which means, a BRAND NEW WEBSITE. For those of you who have been following us in our first year, you would know that we have been fans of our tumblr, but as we move into the new html age - it was proper-time to launch a brand new site! Expect www.martgallery.com.au to be more than just a destination to see what we’ve got coming up in our space. It will showcase tidbits, interviews and news OF ALL ART HAPPENINGS IN THE MUSIC WORLD!! Very exciting. So if you have something to share, please do!!

We will be launching the new site at the beginning of MARCH 2011 along with our very first exhibition of the year by MARICORMARICAR.

MaricorMaricar will be presenting Sewn and stitched,  “Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase” a typographic mixtape of lyrics borrowed from a line up of bands featuring Blondie, Paul Simon and Pavement.

Swapping pen and paper for needle and thread MaricorMaricar have created a compilation of hand crafted type. This series of stitched artworks are inspired by song lyrics misheard and mixed up.

MaricorMaricar are twin sister designers previously from Sydney design studio Mathematics. Their work can be seen on album artwork, poster designs, music videos and websites. They try to escape the computer as much as possible and recently have focused on creating hand crafted designs using paper and thread.

Having just been nominated for the QANTAS SOYA Award in 2010 for visual communication , WINNING the British Council’s “Realise your dream” award AND scoring a nomination in the PlusCameriage Film Festival for their animated music video (check it out here) Mart Gallery is proud to have the ladies in our space.

“Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase” and exhibition of works by MaricorMaricar, opens Thursday 3rd March 5:30-8:30pm and runs from 4-19 MARCH.

BT FROM LOVE POLICE!!!

Photobucket

It is with GREAT HONOUR that Mart Gallery presents to the world one of our favourite music industry icons….BT FROM LOVE POLICE. Before we knew him, we were intrigued, then we got to know him and we’re still intrigued!

Brian ‘BT’ Taranto has been hanging around gigs professionally for over 25 years, and in his mind since the Ike Turner struck the chords to Rocket 88 in ‘51.

He is an entrepreneur, businessman, smart dresser, guitarist, father and music lover of the highest order. You may have seen, heard and wear something produced by his company, Love Police.

He also creates. Band shirt designs, concert tour art, concert tours, alternative festivals and groovy scenes, but this time it’s Art. Middle order Art. Grunge Art. Fun Art. Reflective Art, and most importantly Art that is inspired and contrived from a lifetime of passion for three chords and the truth.

His Art sounds good.
