Well hello there all our Mart Gallery friends!
We hope the summer has been treating you well, and you’re all set for 2011!
We’ve been very busy here over at Mart, preparing for the new year - which means, a BRAND NEW WEBSITE. For those of you who have been following us in our first year, you would know that we have been fans of our tumblr, but as we move into the new html age - it was proper-time to launch a brand new site! Expect www.martgallery.com.au to be more than just a destination to see what we’ve got coming up in our space. It will showcase tidbits, interviews and news OF ALL ART HAPPENINGS IN THE MUSIC WORLD!! Very exciting. So if you have something to share, please do!!
We will be launching the new site at the beginning of MARCH 2011 along with our very first exhibition of the year by MARICORMARICAR.
MaricorMaricar will be presenting Sewn and stitched, “Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase” a typographic mixtape of lyrics borrowed from a line up of bands featuring Blondie, Paul Simon and Pavement.
Swapping pen and paper for needle and thread MaricorMaricar have created a compilation of hand crafted type. This series of stitched artworks are inspired by song lyrics misheard and mixed up.
MaricorMaricar are twin sister designers previously from Sydney design studio Mathematics. Their work can be seen on album artwork, poster designs, music videos and websites. They try to escape the computer as much as possible and recently have focused on creating hand crafted designs using paper and thread.
Having just been nominated for the QANTAS SOYA Award in 2010 for visual communication , WINNING the British Council’s “Realise your dream” award AND scoring a nomination in the PlusCameriage Film Festival for their animated music video (check it out here) Mart Gallery is proud to have the ladies in our space.

“Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase” and exhibition of works by MaricorMaricar, opens Thursday 3rd March 5:30-8:30pm and runs from 4-19 MARCH.
