Record label owner. Artist Manager. Photographer. Mart Gallery is proud to present David Shrimpton, a man who has not only brought some amazing bands to our ears (School of Seven Bells, Cut Off Your Hands, Midlake to name a few) but also a talented photographer.
David Shrimpton has been shooting photographs since his late teens when a now ex girlfriend introduced him to the wonders of slide photography. “At the time, we had regular gatherings of friends and we’d often get a slide project out towards the end of the evening and flick through all our travels. We thought it was cool but funnily enough… people always seemed to be busy when the next dinner and slide night invitation went out!”
Ten years later, and with no real reason other than the enjoyment of taking photos, David undertook a diploma of photography at the London College of the Arts in the United Kingdom.
Through his work in the music industry, he was presented with the chance to mix both his love of music and his love of photography. What started out as taking photos for fun has since becoming something more. This is his first solo exhibition titled “Everything In Its Right Place”.
The exhibition encapsulates short and spontaneous moments while traveling the world as well as some intense and forward studies of rock musicians including Blaine Harrison from Mystery Jets, Luke Boredom from Violent Soho, Red Riders, Kirin J Callinan, The Duke Spirit & Cut Off Your Hands, both on the road and in their homelands.
David Shrimpton lives and works in Sydney, he is the co-owner of Speak n Spell, a Sydney based indie label and management company.
“Everything In Its Right Place” runs from Friday June 11th – Saturday June 26th 2010. All works will be for sale. Mart Gallery is open Tues – Sat 12-5pm.
